COURSE DESCRIPTION

CHC30221 Certificate III in School Based Education Support reflects the role of workers who assist teachers and support student learning in a range of classroom settings. You will be required to complete general administrative as well as operational tasks to support students with learning under the guidance of a teacher or other educational professional. This type of work requires use of discretion and judgement within the boundaries of established policies and procedures.

As a Education support worker you will mainly work with students in classroom settings in primary or secondary schools, as defined by State/Territory legislation.

To achieve this qualification, the individual must complete a total of least 100 hours of work in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students, within at least one school in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Course Structure

15 units in total, including 10 core units and 5 elective units (Expected Study Hours is 1171 hours).

Course Delivery

Course is delivered online via DESILMS.
You will also undertake a Work Placement (minimum of 100 hours in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia.)

Career Pathway

Depending on your long term personal career goals, via completion of CHC30221 you will meet the entry requirements necessary to study CHC50221 Diploma of School Age Education and Care.

Admission Requirements

To enrol in this course you must be:

  • Minimum age 18
  • Provide a valid USI
  • Be able to provide a suitable work placement in accordance with the work placement checklist
  • and have one of the following:
    • Australian Citizenship
    • Australian Permanent Resident
    • Must hold a visa that allows domestic study (non-CRICOS)

Learner Obligations

To complete your CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care you need access to:

  • A computer with reliable internet access and a web browser
  • A device to record video
  • A calculator
  • Digital presentation media (e.g. PowerPoint, video presentation, infographics, etc.)

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is available to suitable ACTAC learners who have at least three years relevant industry experience.

Expected Study Hours is 1200 hours.
