Dear Learners,

While you work towards your goals, you may encounter setbacks or obstacles. When this occurs, it is important to have a resilient and determined mindset. Resilience is the ability to adapt positively and bounce back from adversity, while perseverance is the ability to pursue a goal over time even if complications arise.

Resilience is a key skill when working with children, as it allows you to easily adapt to what is happening around you. In your future roles, you will need to juggle many responsibilities at once, since every child will have their own personality and needs that you will need to respond to. You may face adversity both in and out of the classroom.

It is important to have a strong and capable mindset that can address challenges. Even in your studies, you may find yourself facing obstacles you need to tackle. There are several factors that contribute to resilience and perseverance, some of which you can work towards building. These are:

  • Confidence and control: feeling capable of accomplishing your goals and having control over your situation is essential to resilience
  • Mental flexibility: the ability to adapt your thinking and regulate your emotions is key to solving issues efficiently
  • Self-compassion: it is important to be kind to yourself when facing adversity

Remember not to give up and to keep working towards your goals. Happy Friday!
