COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. You will use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations.
As an early childhood educator, you can work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.
To achieve this qualification, you must complete a total of at least 160 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

* HLTAID012 cannot be completed through distance mode and requires a face to face class to be undertaken successfully in order for students to achieve competency in this unit. Because ACTAC is an online / distance educator this unit is not provided by ACTAC. Should students wish to complete this unit they must undertake this with a local provider at their cost and we can then provide a credit for this subject. You will also undertake a Work Placement (minimum of 160 hours in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia.) Please note: ACTAC does not accept work placement being carried out in a family daycare setting.
Depending on your long term career and study goals, upon completion of CHC30121 you may wish to progress to completing CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or seek employment in various roles in a childcare industry.
To enrol in this course you must be:
- Minimum age 18
- Provide a valid USI
- Be able to provide a suitable work placement in accordance with the work placement checklist
- and have one of the following:
- Australian Citizenship
- Australian Permanent Resident
- Must hold a visa that allows domestic study (non-CRICOS)
To complete your CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care you need access to:
- A computer with reliable internet access and a web browser
- A device to record video
- A calculator
- Digital presentation media (e.g. PowerPoint, video presentation, infographics, etc.)
Expected Study Hours are 1243 hours.
