COURSE DESCRIPTION
CHC40221 Certificate IV in School Based Education Support reflects the role of workers who assist teachers and support student learning in a range of classroom settings under the guidance of a teacher or other educational professional.
At this level, you may be involved in facilitation of learning for a range of instructional groupings, including for those students in need of additional support. In these roles, the education support worker sources and analyses information from diverse sources, may work with limited direct supervision and could provide guidance to co-workers.
As a education support worker you will work mainly with students in classroom settings in primary or secondary schools, as defined by State/Territory legislation.
To achieve this qualification, you must complete a total of 100 hours of field placement in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students, within at least one school in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

You must successfully complete this unit through an external provider such as St Johns Ambulance at your own costs. ACTAC is an online educator and cannot provide hands on courses like HLTAID012 to students.

17 units in total, including 13 core units and 4 elective units (Expected Study Hours is 1725 hours).
COURSE DELIVERY
Course is delivered online via DESILMS.
You will also undertake a Work Placement (minimum of 100 hours in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia.)
CAREER PATHWAY
Learners successfully completing this qualification meet the requirement to work as a School Support Officer within primary or secondary schools, as defined by State/Territory legislation.

To enrol in this course you must be:
- Minimum age 18
- Provide a valid USI
- Be able to provide a suitable work placement in accordance with the work placement checklist
- and have one of the following:
- Australian Citizenship
- Australian Permanent Resident
- Must hold a visa that allows domestic study (non-CRICOS)
