COURSE DESCRIPTION
The CHC50221 Diploma of School Age Education and Care reflects the role of educators who are responsible for the day-to-day running of a regulated school age education and care service in Australia. As an educator you are required to plan, implement and manage programs across all areas of service operations. You will use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. You will be responsible for the supervision of volunteers and/or other staff.
You will work in this context work in outside school hours care and vacation care.
To achieve CHC50221 Diploma of School Age Education and Care you must have completed a total of at least 280 hours of work with school age children in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include a requirement for workplace hours.

The Diploma in School Age Education and care consists of 23 units in total, including 15 core units and 8 elective units

You will also undertake a Work Placement (minimum 280 hours of work placement in a regulated school age education and care service in Australia)
Depending on your long term personal career goals, via completion of CHC50221 you could study a bachelor of Early Childhood (education), and even progress to an advanced diploma in a community sector.
Must be one of the following:
- Australian Citizen
- Australian Permanent Resident
- Must hold a visa that allows domestic study (non-CRICOS)
- Minimum age 18
- Provide a valid USI
- Be able to provide a suitable work placement in accordance with the work placement checklist
To complete your CHC50221 Diploma of School Age Education and Care you need access to:
- A computer with reliable internet access and a web browser

- Digital presentation media (e.g. PowerPoint, video presentation, infographics, etc.)
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is available to suitable ACTAC learners who have at least three years relevant industry experience.
Expected Study Hours is 2445 hours.
