Recognition as an ‘Equivalent Early Childhood Teacher’

Update from ACECQA: This transitional measure was most recently reviewed by the ACECQA Board at the end of June 2024, at which point the Board decided to extend the measure until the end of 2027.

Primary and Secondary School Teachers, become an Early Childhood Teacher before legislation changes!

What’s changing?

The Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) are recognising ‘equivalent Early Childhood Teachers’.

Currently, a teacher who holds ALL THREE (3) of the following will be recognised as equivalent to an Early Childhood Teacher:

  1. Primary or secondary teaching qualification, and
  2. Teacher Registration in Australia (called ‘Accreditation’ in New South Wales), and
  3. ACECQA approved CHC30121 Certificate III Early Childhood Education and Care (or higher Early Childhood Education and Care qualification).

After the end of 2027, this transitional measure is scheduled to cease, however individuals who have obtained this combination of qualifications before the end of 2027 will continue to be recognised under this provision.
